The word "washi" comes from 'wa' (Japanese) and 'shi' (paper).
The durability of Washi is said to be more than 1,000 years, it is used for the Japanese bill, parts of a Kimono, on furniture and on restoration of cultural properties throughout the world.
Washi is one of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage objects.
